1. Complete Application:
   
   And submit the non-refundable $45*^ application fee.
   
   *The application fee may be deferred for applicants for a period of up to 1 year. Applicants that want to defer longer than 1 year from the initial time of admission, will have to pay the application fee over again. Applicants requesting a deferral should email [email protected] for instructions.

2. Submit Official Transcripts:
   
   Applicants must see that one transcript from each college or university attended, except YSU, is sent to the College of Graduate Studies. If the applicant has attended YSU previously as an undergraduate or graduate student, we will look for any additional transcripts that may have been sent in with prior applications. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to the College of Graduate Studies. Students should request transcripts appropriate for graduate admissions. Personal or unofficial transcripts issued to the student or those delivered or sent by the applicant instead of the institution will not be accepted.
   
   Applicants who attended non-U.S. educational institutions, may need to provide an outside evaluation of their foreign transcripts, or have their transcripts evaluated by our International Programs Office.
   
   Applications for admission cannot be reviewed until official transcripts of all previous college or university work are received. The applicant must see that these reach the College of Graduate Studies at the earliest possible date. Omission of information required on the application form will necessitate requests for the additional information and therefore delay processing of the application, so the applicant should provide all requested information in the first submission of materials. As soon as possible after receipt of application materials, the Graduate Dean will notify the student of the action taken on the application and, if the student has been admitted, will provide information on registration procedures.

4. The Graduate Studies office processes the applications and ensures all required items are complete:
   • An initial GPA check is done to determine if the applicant is required to take the GRE, and if so, the Graduate College notifies the student with instructions on required scores and score submission instructions.
   • All applicants are required to complete an Admissions Verification and Authorization Form if they answer “Yes” to the following questions on the application:
     • Have you ever been convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to, or been found responsible or guilty of a misdemeanor crime (excluding a traffic/minor misdemeanor offense) and/or felony?
     • Are there any criminal charges currently pending against you (excluding a traffic/minor misdemeanor offense)?
     • Have you ever been suspended or dismissed from any school for academic reasons?
     • Have you ever been suspended or dismissed from any school for nonacademic reasons?The Admissions Verification and Authorization Form is used to find out more information about the applicant’s charges, as well as give us the permission to run a background check. This form and supplemental information will be sent to our Associate Director for Student Conduct and the YSU Police for review to see if the applicant can move forward in the application process based on their findings. The application will not move forward until the student has been cleared by the Associate Director for Student Conduct.
5. Applications are then sent to the Education Department, who:
   • Completes a final review of applications
   • Makes admission decision based on the admissions requirements (including test score if required)
   • Routes the application back to the Graduate College
   • Applicants are notified by the Graduate College of their admissions decision via email with instructions on accessing and activating the Penguin Portal for registering for classes. At this time, students are notified of their YSU email address, Login ID/Username, and Banner ID Number.
6. If applicants are deemed admissible but have any unsatisfied admission requirements (e.g. bachelor's degree still in progress), their admission status will be updated to "Accepted Regular Pending" for admission or “Accepted Provisional Pending” for admission. The Graduate College will put a hold on those students upon admission who have not yet submitted proof of degree which will prevent them from registering for the second term. The hold will be removed once the student submits a final official transcript indicating the degree has been awarded.
7. If admitted students notify the Graduate College or their program that they are declining the offer of admission, the Graduate College will update their admission decision status to indicate cancellation of admission.
