  • Pay $45 application fee ($90 International). Waived for active/veteran military members or for applicants who have attended the College of Graduate Studies in the past.

  • Currently enrolled or have graduated from a master's degree program
  • Submit official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework from regionally accredited institutions
  • Submit official scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (waived for applicants who have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Valid teaching certificate
  • At least four years of teaching experience

Courses

For the Teacher Leader Endorsement online, you are required to take four courses for a total of 12 credit hours.

Duration: 7 Weeks weeks
Credit Hours: 3
Candidates will complete a task called “Beyond Your Classroom: Instructional Rounds,” which requires candidates to conduct a series of learning walks in teacher classrooms within their school district. Candidates will dialogue with other candidates working in different settings by using online discussion prompts about the implications and limitations of implementing instructional rounds in a school district.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop effective leadership behaviors that encourage teacher leadership, commitment, and competence.
  • Demonstrate adult learning principles that assist in the professional development of teachers.
  • Develop the capacity to lead professional learning communities, encourage reflective practice in others, and improve teacher efficacy.
  • Identify school improvement needs which can be facilitated by formal and informal teacher leaders.
  • Promote practices which aim to improve instruction and student learning.
Duration: 7 Weeks weeks
Credit Hours: 3
Candidates will complete a task called “Personalized Professional Development,” which requires candidates to develop a personalized professional development plan for another teacher within their school district. Candidates will then discuss the feasibility of developing personalized professional development plans for staff members with other candidates working in different school district settings via online discussion prompts.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify school improvement needs which can be facilitated by formal and informal teacher leaders.
  • Promote practices which aim to improve instruction and student learning.
  • Develop effective leadership behaviors that encourage teacher leadership, commitment, and competence.
  • Demonstrate adult learning principles that assist in the professional development of teachers.
  • Develop the capacity to lead professional learning communities, encourage reflective practice in others, and improve teacher efficacy.
Duration: 7 Weeks weeks

This course prepares teacher leaders to reflect on their professional responsibilities in serving diverse student populations by fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments. Through analysis of student data, school culture, and systemic challenges, candidates will explore how teacher leaders respond ethically and professionally to the unique needs of students and schools. Emphasis is placed on understanding how school context—including socioeconomic, cultural, behavioral, and academic factors—shapes instructional decision-making and leadership practices. Candidates will examine the impact of discipline trends, dropout rates, and access disparities to develop strategies that support high-quality, student-focused education for all learners. Field experience activities are designed to promote leadership that is reflective, collaborative, and responsive to the varied realities of today’s classrooms.
Duration: 7 Weeks weeks
Credit Hours: 3
Candidates will complete a task called “How Context Makes a Difference,” which requires candidates to develop their own school profile, as it relates to key academic data, student demographics, and graduation rate. Through online discussion prompts, candidates will compare school profiles with other candidates who work in different school settings, and explain how the context makes a difference in the field experience activities that they are completing.
