The coursework in this unique online program changes as technology evolves. Prepare to study digital literacy, computational thinking, computer programming, and curriculum design and learn best practices in the use of technology to support student knowledge development. In courses such as “Coding for Educators” and “Gaming for Educators,” you will learn how to design apps from start to finish and to develop digital games to support student learning.

  • Pay $45 application fee ($90 International). Waived for active/veteran military members or for applicants who have attended the College of Graduate Studies in the past.

  • Names and contact information for 3 professional references (in online application)
  • Submit official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework from regionally accredited institutions
  • Submit official scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (waived for applicants who have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Valid teaching certificate
    • Students without a teaching certificate or license may be admitted on an individual basis to graduate programs leading to certification or licensure in certain areas

TCED 6933: Brain Based Teaching and Learning

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

A critical appraisal of dealing with learning and teaching. Each learner constructs his/her brain as learning occurs. Teachers reconsider their practices in light of the science of learning research provided by education, neuroscience and socio-psychology.

TCED 6905: Intro to Digital Teaching and Learning

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Digital teaching and learning is much more than knowing some great apps for the smart board or iPad. It is understanding a new paradigm that promotes a new pedagogy. It takes educators beyond the formal traditional classroom of lecture and paper/pencil into an interactive, student-centered environment. This course will introduce students to the paradigm of digital teaching and learning and provide the framework and foundation for change within districts and classrooms to meet 21st-century learning.

TCED 6932: Action Research in Urban and Rural Education

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course focuses on action research as it applies to urban and rural education. Topics include reflecting to identify a problem, reviewing literature, planning and implementing interventions, data collection and analysis strategies, and sharing outcomes with others. Course may be offered onsite, online or as a combination of both. Field experience in an appropriate educational setting is required.

TCED 6936: Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction to Improve Learning

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Focus on the instructional design process from a practical perspective. Emphasis on planning the curriculum to include content analysis, learning objectives, instructional strategies and measurement of student achievement.

TCED 6906: Designing Curriculum for Digital Teaching and Learning

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

What does a 21st-century classroom curriculum look like? How do you maintain the requirements of the state while moving forward in 21st-century learning using digital technology? This course will help students find, explore and evaluate digital tools to transform content curriculum into real and meaningful digital learning experiences that put students at the center of their learning while aligning the curriculum with national standards of content, technology and 21st-century learning. Student-centered, project-based learning will be at the center of this course experience.

TCED 6907: Literacy for Digital Learning

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Technology takes us out of a traditional form of literacy. Today, students are bombarded with tons of information and resources that effectively build knowledge and skill for endless topics through the internet. This course will explore the topic of digital literacy and support a knowledge base that helps students in K-12 classrooms develop an ability to use digital technology to find information and critically evaluate that information's authority and relevance.

TCED 6908: Digital Learning Environments

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course will provide students with learning experiences that explore what a classroom for digital learning looks and feels like. Students will be able to understand and be able to develop a variety of digital learning environments including flipped classrooms, blended learning, online learning and classroom.

TCED 6911: Coding for Educators

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Participants in this course will learn computational thinking, introductory computer programming, and technology integration for content courses. Participants will design three apps from start to finish and leave the course with an instructional segment they can then implement into their curriculum.

TCED 6910: Leadership in the 21st Century

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

The world is moving at a fast pace. Technology has changed the way we socialize, communicate, live and learn. It is one thing to understand the need for change in districts and organizations and another to be a change agent and provide the leadership for change. This course will equip the student with the knowledge and skills to provide this leadership and make things happen in a classroom, school, district or organization.

TCED 6912: Gaming for Educators

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Participants in this course will develop instructional practices that rely on digital games and gaming techniques. Digital games will be evaluated for inquiry skills, narrative potential, and content delivery. Digital games are uniquely positioned to support student learning as they serve multiple purposes and can be very engaging.
